Saint-Malo spring tides, September 2026: the autumn equinox
Updated on 16 July 2026
From 11 to 13 September 2026, Saint-Malo gets its autumn equinox tide: coefficient 102, over a full weekend, Friday to Sunday. The sea is at its warmest of the year, the days are still long and the August crowds have gone home. Plenty of regulars only come for this one.
Why September rather than March
March has slightly higher coefficients and its storm moods. September lets you enjoy the low waters in summer conditions: shore foraging at its peak (clams, cockles, prawns in the rocks), the walk out to Grand Bé without chattering teeth, mild evenings on the dyke.
At high water the sea brushes the top of the wall morning and evening. Waves coming over it depend on the swell of the moment — equinox gales happen in September too. Our “will the sea leap the wall?” index switches on as the dates approach.
Where to stay that weekend
Three days of spring tide landing exactly on a weekend: for availability, this is the tightest scenario of the year. Sea-view rooms on the Sillon and the good Intra-Muros addresses go months ahead for these precise dates. Saint-Servan and Paramé make a comfortable fallback a few minutes away.
The booking module above targets the 11–13 September weekend directly.
Mind the incoming tide
Warm water and September light lower everyone’s guard. This is the month when the flood catches out the most foragers and walkers gone too far out on the foreshore. Check the official SHOM tide times (widget below), start back as soon as the tide turns and keep a margin: in this bay, the sea advances at walking pace.

September or March: which spring tide should I choose?
March has slightly stronger coefficients and storm-season drama; September has the warmest sea of the year, still-long days and a town returned to its locals after summer. For a first, gentler spring tide — shore foraging, tidal islands, golden light — September is often the better pick.
