Where to stay for the Route du Rhum 2026: areas and alternatives

For the Route du Rhum 2026, the question is not “where is the best price” but “where is there still room, and for what purpose”. Here is the mental map, from nearest to furthest.

In Saint-Malo, area by area

Intra-Muros — the race village sits at the foot of the ramparts: you walk there morning and evening without touching a car all week. It is the most sought-after area, the first to sell out, at the highest rates. For the start weekend it books a year ahead; on village weekdays, windows remain.

Saint-Servan — the best second choice: quiet, some twenty minutes’ walk from the village along the coastal path, with views over the docks from the Cité d’Aleth. A good price/proximity compromise.

Paramé and the Sillon — further from the village (allow 25–35 minutes on foot from the sea wall), but this is the seafront: you can combine the race with the 26–28 October spring tide (coefficient 100) seen from your room.

The alternatives 20–40 minutes out

When Saint-Malo is full — and it will be — the useful radius widens:

• Dinard, right across the estuary: the ideal shore to watch the fleet pass at the start, and the sea shuttle to reach the village on other days.
• Cancale, on the Mont-Saint-Michel bay side: harbour, oysters and rooms with a view, around twenty minutes by car.
• Saint-Briac and the western Emerald Coast: quieter seaside resorts, on the way to Cap Fréhel.
• Dinan, inland on the Rance: a medieval town whose accommodation often stays available later than the coast.
• Rennes, connected to Saint-Malo by train: the latecomers’ fallback base, handy for day trips without driving.
